South Orange Marks the Komen Race; Natl Days of Remembrance
A proclamation was read at Monday's meeting
The Fourth Annual Komen North Jersey Race for a Cure is Sunday, May 15 at the Essex County South Mountain Recreation Complex in West Orange. On the same day South Orange will recognize the race by order of a proclamation read aloud at Monday's Board of Trustees meeting. Village President Douglas Newman was attended by members of SOMA Gals, a local team that been successful in fundraising and completing the race.
At the same meeting, Newman noted that South Orange likewise marks the National Days of Remembrance, May 1 - 8, an annual commemoration of the victims of the Holocaust. That proclamation will be read in its entirety at the 35th Annual South Orange/Maplewood Interfaith Holocaust Remembrance Service, Sunday, May 1, 6:15. The service begins at the South Orange Avenue flagpole adjacent to Village Hall and will continue at Congregation Beth-El for main part of the service, which begins at 7 p.m.
