Summer Rain, SOPAC, and South Orange Concert Finale

Rock the Hill moved indoors, and the music played on

Rain moved Rock the Hill indoors to SOPAC for the final in the summer concert series. Yes, it was wet outdoors, but the music was blazing as local bands  Mood Ring, Test Pattern, and   took the stage.

This was Rock the Hill's third summer in South Orange, though different bands perform each year. Mood Ring's David Gomberg notedthat playing for locals is a highlight. "Playing for the home crowd is more deeply fulfilling as we consider our community very special," said Gomberg.  "The bands that perform are made up of very talented musicians indicative of the vast support for the arts that exists in SOMa. Rock the Hill is part of our community's musical collaboration Rock The House New Jersey, a rock concert series that began as a way to support local talent."

The summer's concerts have included a Billy Joel cover band, salsa, blues, and reggae. Each Wednesday evening has seen hundreds of local converge on Floods Hill. Click through the photos to see what happens on the hill on Wednesday nights -- and don't miss this summer's chance to rock the town, free of charge.

The 2011 Free Concerts in the Park series is produced by the Village of South Orange, The Baird, and SOPAC and made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.

Technical glitches meant our photos of Mood Ring didn't work out. Our apologies, and, if you have photos or video from last night, please feel free to add to this story, or email marciaw@patch.com
