Torpey, Village React to Lautenberg's Death

South Orange's Village President reflects on passing of longtime senator.

Local leaders reacted Monday following the news that

South Orange Village President Alex Torpey posted a statement on the village's website that noted Lautenberg was "a strong advocate for the Village regarding legislation, funding and assistance with a variety of critical projects." In particular, Lautenberg fought to bring funding to families and small businesses affected by Superstorm Sandy.

The statement continued, "[Senator Lautenberg]...represented and served the Township of South Orange Village and New Jersey with great foresight and integrity."

In a personal reflection, Torpey called Lautenberg a "tireless advocate for South Orange, for Essex County, for New Jersey and for our entire country. I know he will be missed by all who have been fortunate enough to have the pleasure of working with him, and we thank him for many years of service for our country, from World War II until present day."
