SO Joins Natl Moment of 9/11 Remembrance

Monday's special meeting included several resolutions

South Orange trustees tonight voted on a resolution to join the National Moment of Remembrance in honor of the tenth anniversary of Sept. 11th.

The National Moment of Remembrance was introduced in the Senate by New Jersey senators Frank Lautenberg Robert Menendez, along with legislators from New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Virginia. The resolution, which passed unanimously in late July, calls for a nationwide Moment of Remembrance at 1 p.m. Eastern time on Sept. 11, 2011 -- a minute of reflection and ringing of bells and sounding of sirens across the country. In addition, trustees voted to:

amend the Village personnel policy to revise the miltary leave policy;

place a lien on private property for a special cleanup; and

authorize an Executive Session on Monday night.

Finally, a resolution to place a non-binding referendum question on the November ballot failed. The question would have asked voters if they prefer to move the community's from May to November.

Trustees Michael Goldberg, Mark Rosner and Howard Levison voted against the public referendum on this issue tonight. Trustees Deborah Davis-Ford and Nancy Gould voted for it. Trustee Janine Bauer, who was expected to vote for the measure, was expected to call in, but did not do so.

Trustee Rosner commended Sheena Collum for a successful . Trustee Davis-Ford noted that , and cited Congressman Bill Pascrell's role.
