West Montrose Levee Gets a Look
The Army Corps of Engineers inspects the levee that holds back the Rahway
When Clark St. residents saw trees felled and brush cleared earlier this month, a number wondered about the nature of the work and contacted Patch for information. Village Administrator John Gross explained the current initiative.
"That is part of maintenance requirements promulgated by the Army Corps of Engineers to protect the integrity of the adjacent levee," Gross explained in an email communication. The levee is part of the West Montrose neighborhood, as it forms the backyard boundary for some two dozen homes on Page Terr. and Clark St.
Gross further noted that, "The Army Corps will doing inspections this month to determine what other maintenance actions the Army Corp will require the Village to perform in order to maintain our flood insurance availability for the adjacent residents."
