Drive-By Shooting In Toms River Leads To Attempted Murder Charge: Authorities

A 20-year-old from Manchester has been arrested in the shooting that happened in mid-January, police said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Manchester Township man has been arrested in a drive-by shooting that happened in mid-January in Toms River, police said Wednesday.

Javir K. Askew-Mayweather, 20, was arrested Tuesday, Toms River police said. He is charged with three counts of attempted murder in the shooting at the Hope's Crossing apartment complex off Cox Cro Road, police said.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the shooting, which police said happened during the early morning hours of Jan. 13.

An investigation by Toms River police , the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and the
Ocean County Sheriff’s Department led authorities to Askew-Mayweather, police said.

He was found in Atlantic City at the Tropicana Hotel & Casino on Tuesday and arrested by the U. S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, police said.

He is being held at the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.

The Atlantic City Police Department, Neptune Police Department, Manchester Police Department, Monmouth County Regional SWAT Team and the Ocean County SWAT Team assisted in the investigation.
