Postponed Downtown Car Show Kicks Off Wednesday

Cruisin' Downtown originally was set to begin in May but postponed due to rain

After it was rained out last month, Cruisin' Downtown will make its 2013 season debut on Wednesday evening.

The kick off of the classic car show series was scheduled for May, but the threat of thunderstorms forced organizers to postpone the event until June 12. An additional date was added for Wednesday, Oct. 9 to compensate.

Organizers said that they expect about 175 to 200 classic autos and 100 motorcycles to be displayed on Washington Street in Downtown Toms River. The shows will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. every second Wednesday of the month through September.

Music will be provided by Sidewalk Serenade and DJ Ken Schaffer, and food vendors and merchants will have items for sale, according to organizers. Local radio personalities are expected to give live reports of the show.

The National Weather Service forecast for Wednesday is mostly sunny with a high near 82 degrees. Rain isn't likely until early Thursday morning and into Friday.

Those entering vehicles are asked to arrive at the Hadley Avenue staging area at 4:30 p.m. Participation is free, and entrance details are available here online.

This year’s other Cruisin’ dates are: June 12, July 10, Aug. 14, Sept. 11 and Oct. 9. The September date feature a ceremony in honor of those lost in the Sept. 11 terror attacks or during service to the United States, organizers said.
