Cedar Grove Police Busy With Traffic Stops, Arrests

June 4: A Verona woman reported losing a diamond and gold tennis bracelet while attending the St. Catherine of Siena Carnival on Sunday, June 3. Anyone who may have found the bracelet is asked to contact police headquarters at (973) 239-4100.

June 5: Cedar Grove police arrested 21-year-old Melissa McCain of Orange for driving with a suspended and expired driver’s license following an 8:23 p.m. police stop. Further investigation revealed McCain was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Livingston. She was processed and released pending municipal court appearances in both Cedar Grove and Livingston.

June 6: Cedar Grove police arrested 20-year-old Terrance Pope of West Orange on a weapons possession charge following an 8:44 p.m. police stop. As police were getting Pope’s driver’s license, they detected the smell of burnt marijuana coming from the car. Further investigation revealed Pope was in possession of a knife. He was processed and released pending a Superior Court arraignment scheduled for Thursday.

June 7: Cedar Grove police arrested 49-year-old Perrin K. McLaughlin of Montclair at 6:58 p.m. for driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a car crash and providing false information to police following an accident on Woodstone Drive.
Police were contacted by McLaughlin, who said her car was struck while parked in the Bradford Bath & Tennis Club parking lot. After further investigation, police determined the crash did not occur in the parking lot, but actually occurred on Woodstone Drive, where McLaughlin allegedly struck and damaged a fire hydrant.
During the investigation, police detected the smell of alcohol on McLaughlin’s breath and arrested her for driving while intoxicated. Her damaged 2001 Toyota Camry was impounded.
McLaughlin was processed at police headquarters and released pending a municipal court hearing.

June 7: Cedar Grove police arrested 22-year-old Emiliano J. Castro-Castro of Paterson on drug and drug paraphernalia charges following an 11:56 p.m. traffic stop. While getting Castro-Castro’s driver’s license, police smelled burning marijuana coming from the car. After further investigation, Castro-Castro was found to be in possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and arrested. He was processed and released pending a municipal court appearance.

June 8: Detectives are investigating the theft of $5,000 worth of eyeglass frames from Eye Classique Optical on Pompton Avenue at 10:36 a.m. The storeowner reported several frames had been stolen from the store sometime during the overnight hours. No signs of forced entry were noted.

June 10: Cedar Grove police arrested 28-year-old Luke T. Miller of Morris Plains on outstanding traffic warrants from Cedar Grove municipal court at 1:32 a.m. Miller was processed and released after posting bail.

June 10: Cedar Grove police are searching for a black Nissan believed to be involved in a hit & run accident at 2:43 p.m. on Devonshire Road South. Police say a 1998 Dodge pickup was parked at the curb when the second car crashed into the pickup and fled. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact police at (973) 239-4100.

June 10: Cedar Grove police arrested 38-year-old Stella I. Nwandiko of Newark for driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop at 11:06 p.m. Nwandiko was processed and released pending a municipal court appearance.

June 11: Cedar Grove police are investigating a car-deer accident involving a 2000 Toyota that occurred at 12:01 a.m. Police said the car was traveling south on Pompton Avenue near Stevens Avenue when the deer ran out into the roadway. The car sustained front-end damage resulting from the crash. The deer ran off into the woods, police said.
