Children's Institute Accepting New Preschool Students

This July, The Children’s Institute, located at 1 Sunset Ave. in Verona, will begin accepting new students age 3-5 that have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, according to CEO and Superintendent Dr. Bruce Ettinger.

Ettinger said the openings will be in the preschool programs.

“The school is expanding,” Ettinger said, “making these openings possible.  We are now accepting records for students to begin in July, 2012.”

At the school, preschoolers with autism spectrum disorders are offered a full day of intensive one-on-one data-driven instruction based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

The Children’s Institute recognizes that disability does not define the student, and also offers opportunities for typical preschool experiences as part of the instructional day – gym, art, music and recess – each providing a forum for the youngest student to learn and generalize skills. The parent support and parent education programs help families navigate the challenges they face at home and in the community.

“As the number of children affected by autism grows, so too does the body of research showing the importance of effective, intensive behaviorally-oriented intervention,” Ettinger said.

The Children's Institute is a private, non-profit school approved by the New Jersey State Board of Education, serving children facing learning, language and social challenges, ages 3-21.

The school serves children from northern New Jersey, including Essex, Union, Morris, Hudson, Middlesex, Passaic, Bergen and adjoining counties.
