H.B. Whitehorne Middle School's Dream Team collected a hefty 195 pounds of Halloween candy.
A Verona dentist collected more than 650 pounds of leftover candy in the week following Halloween.
The candy brought to Dr. Stephen Sandler and his staff at Verona Smiles on Pompton Avenue will be packaged and distributed to U.S. troops stationed overseas. Donated toiletries will accompany the sweets.
"We would like to thank everyone that helped us with this collection," said Sandler following his annual Operation Candy Buy Back.

The dentist credited two schools for their hefty contributions. H.B. Whitehorne Middle School's Dream Team and Jonas Salk Middle School in Old Bridge, he said, each donated around 200 pounds of candy.
Sandler also thanked the local Elks Club and the Hildreth family for their roles in the effort.
