Rescued Greyhound's Tour Stops at Petco

Near death and dumped at Tennessee shelter, a healthy Giles Express appears at Verona pet store Saturday.

When greyhound Giles Express was dumped at a Tennessee animal shelter as a stray a little more than a month ago with another dog, he was pretty much left for dead by his owner.

The faded black 11-year-old greyhound was infested with thousands of fleas, suffering from dehydration, starving and had severe anemia from his parasites.

The shelter did what it could and word spread of the dog's plight throughout the greyhound rescue community.

Before long, donations began to pour in and between a Facebook Auction page and donations from around the world — including Germany, France, Great Britain, Canada and the Netherlands — $14,000 was raised for his care. An additional ChipIn account was set up, raising another $8,000 to cover the expenses of Giles Express’ and another dog, named Gulliver’s, health costs.

Now that Giles Express has regained his health, his new owners Nancy and Amber Hanrahan of Wood-Ridge, are using the opportunity to educate people about Giles Express’ story.

The dog was a guest at the Verona Petco last weekend to tell his story and educate customers about his story.
