Mane Place II Owner Sergio Sanzari Dies

Sergio Sanzari, the owner of The Mane Place II Salon in Verona for the last 25 years, died on Sunday, July 15 at age 47.

Friends and family described Sanzari as always having a real connection with his customers. He enjoyed chatting while cutting hair and especially enjoyed making people laugh.

Parking Restrictions Draw Mixed Reaction

When residents approached the Cedar Grove Township Council in April complaining about commuters parking on Devonshire Road and seeking parking time limits, the council said they would study the situation and try to resolve it amicably.

On Monday night, the council took action, voting unanimously to put two-hour time limits on four township roads from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Briarhill Road (south side), Devonshire Road (south side), Lakewood Avenue (north side) and Union Street (north side).

Former Verona Mayor Kirnan Pleads Guilty

The former mayor of Verona, Matthew Kirnan, has pleaded guilty to stealing $750,000 from three clients, officials at the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday.

Kirnan, 52, a disbarred lawyer, pleaded guilty on Monday before state Superior Court Judge Sherry Hutchins-Henderson.

Between 2009 and 2010, he took money belonging to two clients that was supposed to be used to pay their outstanding mortgages and another client that was to help pay inheritance taxes.

Montclair Man Ticketed in Verona Crash

Police have issued a ticket for careless driving to a 60-year-old Montclair man, who crashed his car into a light pole on Tuesday night, causing a power outage.

Foreign Nurses Tour County Hospital

Eleven Taiwanese nurses from HungKuang University got a taste of American culture Tuesday when they visited the Essex County Hospital Center in Cedar Grove.

They toured the $45 million facility with Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo Jr.

Cedar Grove Man Sentenced for Child Porn

A 48-year-old Cedar Grove man was sentenced to 152 months in prison on pornography charges in federal court in Newark, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced Tuesday.

Curt Scholz pleaded guilty earlier before U.S. Magistrate Judge Patty Schwartz to one count of possession of child pornography showing prepubescent children being sexually abused, Fishman said.

NFL Star Helps Verona Park Adds Bocce Courts

Miami Dolphins tight end Anthony Fasano, working with Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, organized a volunteer campaign to open up four new courts at Essex County’s Verona Park in time for Fasano's Bocce Bash last Saturday.

DiVincenzo was on hand to welcome Fasano and thank him for his effort, as well as dedicate the new courts in Fasano’s name because of his considerable donation to expand and modernize the facility.
