Trail Near NJ School Sabotaged With Hundreds Of Metal Spikes, Tacks: Police

Authorities found hundreds of metal spikes and tacks scattered across a trail near a school in Essex County.

According to the Verona Police Department, hundreds of tacks and tire spikes were found deliberately spread along the dirt trail in the wooded area behind Brookdale Avenue School, which runs parallel to Sunset Avenue.

VERONA, NJ — Authorities recently found hundreds of metal spikes and tacks scattered across a trail near a school in Essex County.

According to the Verona Police Department, tacks and tire spikes were deliberately spread along the dirt trail in the wooded area behind Brookdale Avenue School, which runs parallel to Sunset Avenue.

The spikes were reported to police on Tuesday. Since then, authorities have received multiple reports of damaged bicycles.

Verona police and department of public works employees have removed hundreds of the caltrops from the trail.

“Please continue to use caution when using the trail and report suspicious activity immediately to the Verona Police Department at (973) 239-5000, or 911 in an emergency,” authorities said.
