VERONA-CEDAR GROVE, NJ — The dust has settled from this week's local elections in Verona and Cedar Grove, and several candidates have moved to the front of the pack, unofficial results show.
A highly watched governor race brought many residents of Verona and Cedar Grove to the polls on Tuesday. But there were plenty of other choices for local voters to make in the 2025 general election.

Verona residents cast ballots for three open seats on the township council. Terms last for four years. The candidates were: Paul Petrangeli, John Jack McEvoy, Elizabeth Hynes, Christopher Tamburro, and Cynthia Holland.
With 100 percent of districts reported, Tamburro, McEvoy and Holland have apparently captured seats on the council. Results still need to be certified before they are official.
Here are the unofficial results from the Essex County Clerk’s Office:
- Paul Petrangeli – 2,116 votes (13.5%)
- John Jack McEvoy – 3,849 votes (24.55%)
- Elizabeth Hynes – 2,817 votes (17.97%)
- Christopher Tamburro – 3,853 votes (24.58%)
- Cynthia Holland – 3,043 votes (19.41%)
VERONA, CEDAR GROVE SCHOOL BOARDS
Two candidates are running unopposed for two open seats on the Verona Board of Education: Sarina Knoetig and Matthew Perna. Terms last for three years.
Two candidates are running unopposed for two open seats on the Cedar Grove Board of Education: Cienne S. Keegan and Paul Alban. Terms last for three years.
