Verona Chef Wins Congressional Certificate Honoring Volunteer Work

Chef Cardie Mortimer, a retired Chef still thrives to make a difference in his community and beyond.

Executive Chef Cardie Mortimer of Verona was recently recognized by Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill and the United States Congress for all of his volunteer work in and out of the kitchen which has spanned well over 44 years.

In 2018, Chef Cardie provided the monies needed to build a state of the art kitchen and a food pantry located at the Holy Spirit Church in Verona. The kitchen and the food pantry are dedicated to Cardie's late parents, Charles G. and Elisabeth S. Mortimer. The food pantry serves over 100 deserving individuals each and every month.

In 2021, Chef Cardie wrote and personally paid for a 280 page hard copy cookbook entitled, "Keep On Cookin". All of the proceeds from his cookbook go to benefit the National Association for the Homeless based out of Washington, DC. The cookbook may be purchased at Nationalhomeless. org.


Since 2019, Chef Cardie has also been deeply involved with the Emeril Lagasse Foundation based out of New Orleans, Louisiana. Chef Cardie is working directly with the Foundation as one of their head teaching Chefs and will be touring and traveling all over the country to work with young culinary students in both middle school and high school.
