Verona Police Investigate Man Watching Child at Play

The following information has been provided by the Verona Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

May 11: Verona police are investigating several thefts from lockers at Verona High School. Police say an undetermined amount of money was reported missing from the lockers at 12:54 p.m. 

May 12: John Paterno of Verona was arrested at 9:03 a.m. for outstanding warrants from Glen Ridge and North Caldwell municipal courts. Paterno was processed at police headquarters and released on bail after he was given new court dates.

May 13: Several solar lights and a for sale sign were taken from a Linden Avenue front yard at 9:36 a.m. No other damage was reported.

May 14: Gregory McClain of Hillside was taken to the Verona police department at 3:07 p.m. from East Orange police after his arrest on an outstanding warrant from Verona. McClain was processed and released after posting bail. 

May 14: Verona police are investigating an incident in which a Lynwood Road resident said she saw a dark-color car occupied by a white man watching her child play on the front lawn. When the man saw the resident, however, he left the area.

May 16: Verona police are investigating a burglary to a Sunset Avenue home at 11:28 a.m. in which the suspect, described as a black man, allegedly cut the window screen and opened the front door of the home.

A neighbor said they saw the man standing in the back yard of the home, but when the suspect saw the neighbor, he fled.

Inside the home, several drawers were opened. The homeowner is compiling a list of missing items.

May 16: Joseph Tulko of Montclair was taken into custody at Verona municipal court at 7:42 p.m. and taken to the Essex County Jail to serve his six-month sentence.

May 17:  A Marion Road resident told police at 9:07 a.m. he believes his computer, cell phone and laptop were all infected with a virus from his home network and he believes his personal information may have been compromised.

May 17:  Verona police and the rescue squad assisted a woman who fell at 3:17 p.m.

After she was treated for a head injury, she was taken to University Hospital in Newark for treatment.

May 17:  Verona police are investigating a broken garage window the homeowner said happened at 5:37 p.m. during work by landscapers on Mountain Road.
