10 Hurt As NJ Man Seals Family In Home With Toxic Chemicals: Report
The incident posed no danger to the community at large, authorities said on Sunday.
DEPTFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Hazmat incident that left one person in critical condition and injured 10 people altogether, including some first responders, posed no danger to the community at large, Deptford Township police said on Sunday.
A 21-year-old man had filled the sinks and tubs with bleach and ammonia in an attempt to hurt himself and his family, according to 6 ABC. He was taken to an area hospital, and was in critical condition.
The incident occurred on the 400 block of Dickinson Road Saturday night, police said. Police and EMS that responded to the scene reported a heavy chemical smell coming from the home.

Out of an abundance of caution, police officers requested aid from the Gloucester County Hazardous Materials team and Deptford Township Office of Emergency Management. It was determined that there was no existing danger to the surrounding homes or residents, police said.
“As always, we would like to thank Gloucester County EMS and the Hazmat team, along with the Deptford Township Fire Department and Deptford Township OEM, for their assistance,” police said in a statement.
