96-Year-Old Killed In Head-On South Jersey Crash: State Police

Two others were injured in the three-vehicle crash on Friday, state police said.

MAURICE RIVER, NJ - A 96-year-old woman was killed in a head-on collision in Cumberland County Friday afternoon, authorities said.

At around 2:18 p.m. in the area of milepost 3.1 on Route 347 in Maurice River, a BMW X3 crossed the centerline, sideswiped a Mitsubishi Outlander and impacted a Honda CRV head-on, a spokesperson for the New Jersey State Police told Patch.

As a result of the crash, the front passenger in the Honda, Nina Giannuario, 96, of Brookhaven, P.a., sustained fatal injuries, state police said.

The drivers of the Honda and the BMW sustained moderate injuries; the driver of the Mitsubishi did not report any injuries on scene, police said.

Both directions of Route 347 were closed for around four hours, resulting in "moderate traffic congestion," police said.

The crash remains under investigation. No charges have been filed as of Wednesday night.
