Active Investigation Increases Police Presence In West Deptford

Hazmat crews are also at the scene.

WEST DEPTFORD, NJ — An active investigation has prompted an increased police presence along West Deptford's Walnut Street on Thursday.

At around 3 p.m., police advised the public to avoid the area if possible.

A spokesperson for the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office said he was unable to provide additional details during the active investigation. But he told Patch it's believed to be an isolated incident.

"We do not believe that there's any ongoing threat to the local community," said Tom Gilbert, who's also the GCPO's acting chief of detectives.

Residents do not have to shelter-in-place or evacuate, police said.

The Gloucester County Office of Emergency Management and county hazmat team are assisting.
