SWAT Team Standoff With Domestic Violence Suspect In South Jersey Ends In Arrest: Police
Authorities had neighbors shelter in place for several hours before finding the suspect in a home's crawl space.
NEWFIELD, NJ — A man wanted for domestic violence was arrested after a seven-hour standoff with police, including SWAT teams, that forced nearby residents to stay in their homes on Monday in Gloucester County, officials said.
The man was wanted for a endangering the welfare of a child and a mandatory domestic violence charge for an incident that occurred that day in Monroe Township.
Police tried to serve the suspect an arrest warrant around 12:30 p.m. at a home in Newfield. Officers tried to make contact with him through several means of communication, but their efforts failed.

Gloucester County's SWAT Team was dispatched to the Woodlawn Avenue home at around 2:15 p.m., after authorities determined there was a criminal barricade.
Authorities called a shelter-in-place for residents near Woodlawn Avenue and Catawba Avenue, telling residents to stay in their homes.

At around 7:30 p.m., the SWAT team found the man hiding in a crawl space inside the home and arrested him. He was turned over to Monroe Township police.
The shelter-in-place orders were lifted once he scene was clear, police said.
Police reported no injuries.
The Franklin Township Police Department withheld the man's name as of Tuesday afternoon. The FTPD conducts local law enforcement services for Newfield.
