Intoxicated Man Fatally Struck Biker, Returned In Different Vehicle In South Jersey: Cops

He struck the biker with a tractor attachment on a rural roadway, authorities said.

PITTSGROVE, NJ — A man fatally struck a bicyclist while intoxicated, fled the area and then returned to the scene in a different vehicle Wednesday night in Salem County, authorities said.

Steven Petronglo was arrested Thursday after authorities say he struck and killed James Goode, 61, in Pittsgrove.

State troopers responded to the incident just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on Willow Grove Road.

Petronglo was driving eastbound in a Chevrolet Silverado, hauling a tractor with a wide seeder attachment, according to the preliminary investigation from State Police. Meanwhile, Goode was traveling westbound.

The driver failed to avoid the cyclist, striking him with the seeder attachment at the intersection with Parvins Mill Road, a State Police spokesperson told Patch. Goode, of Vineland, sustained fatal injuries.

Petronglo, 44, of Pittsgrove, fled the scene and later returned in a different vehicle, police said.

He was charged with death by auto, knowingly leaving the scene of a fatal accident, strict liability vehicular homicide, tampering with evidence, driving under the influence and numerous motor vehicle violations.

Petronglo was placed in the Salem County Jail, where he awaits a detention hearing.

The investigation remains active, with no additional information available as of Friday morning, according to State Police.
