Letter: Marketing Initiative Deserves a Second Look

Reader Cheryl Carroll thinks that the new ad revenue program can benefit the township.

Last week, West Deptford Democratic Committeewomen Denice DiCarlo and Donna Szymborski voted “no” against Phase II of a Marketing Plan which has the potential to generate a NEW revenue stream for West Deptford.

This type of “out of the box” thinking was encouraged by the Mayor early in the year and embraced by the entire Committee. In fact, Szymborski and DiCarlo on several occasions expressed a desire to “work together” with the entire committee.

To not see the future benefits of Phase II of this Marketing initiative is foolish. Do a little research on Active Marketing and see the communities across the country which have benefited. This initiative is a long-term solution. This is not a band-aid and public relations stunt.

Landscaping some of the islands at River Winds every so often when politicians need some positive light shed on themselves is not producing much needed revenue. Digging holes for trees is not digging us out of our $200 million debt.

The irony with the Marketing initiative is as follows. Committeewoman DiCarlo voted “yes” on Phase I on July 12, 2012, which required $40,000 to have Active Marketing deliver their game-plan. Now DiCarlo is voting ”no” to go forward with Phase II. The next phase is the contingent portion of the entire plan. Phase II is the part of the plan which generates REVENUE for West Deptford. Revenue which does NOT come out of the taxpayers pockets!

We’ve already invested $40,000 and we need to follow through with the rest of the plan. We need to spend some money to make some money.  Ms. DiCarlo proclaims to be financial and business savvy, however, votes “no” to the next phase. This does not quite make sense to me.

Donna and Denice are what is wrong with government and the West Deptford Democratic Party. This type of irresponsibility and wrong decision making needs to be exposed.

Also, listening to the ill-advised scripted questioning and negativity coming from 2013 Democratic Candidates Jim Robinson and Adam Reid in regards to this marketing agenda at the presentation on April 18th, one can already see that the West Deptford Democratic Party has successfully “cloned” Szymborski and DiCarlo.
