NJ Man Killed In Police-Involved Shooting At Home Identified
A South Jersey man who was fatally shot during an encounter with a police officer at his home earlier this month has been identified.
GLOUCESTER COUNTY — A Gloucester County man who was fatally shot during an encounter with a police officer at his home earlier this month has been identified.
Charles Sharp III, 49 of Mantua Township, was killed in a shooting at his home on the 200 block of Elm Avenue in Mantua Township at about 1:35 a.m. on Sept. 14, the Attorney General’s Office said on Wednesday.
Authorities also clarified that a weapon found near Sharp’s body after the shooting was a replica of a .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun. Authorities previously referred to the gun only as a .45 caliber handgun.

It began when two uniformed Mantua Township police officers responded to a 9-1-1 call at the home. One officer fatally shot Sharp during an incident that happened outside the home, authorities said. Read more here: NJ Man Killed In Police-Involved Shooting At Home: Authorities
The officers rendered first aid to Sharp, who was then taken to Jefferson Hospital in Washington Township, according to authorities. He was pronounced dead at 2:49 a.m.

This investigation is being conducted pursuant to Attorney General Directive 2019-4, which implements the statutory requirement that the Attorney General's Office conduct the investigation of any death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer's official capacity or while the decedent is in custody, and which establishes clear standards and procedures for conducting such investigations.
