NJ Man Killed In Police-Involved Shooting At Home: Authorities

The NJ Attorney General's Office is investigating a police-involved shooting at a home in South Jersey on Tuesday morning.

GLOUCESTER COUNTY — The New Jersey Attorney General's Office is investigating a fatal police-involved shooting at a home in Mantua Township on Tuesday morning. One man was killed in the shooting, and his identity was not released by authorities during an update Tuesday afternoon.

Two uniformed Mantua Township police officers responded to a 9-1-1 call at a home on the 200 block of Elm Avenue in Mantua Township at about 1:35 a.m. on Sept. 14, according to authorities. One officer fatally shot the man, who was later identified as the homeowner, during an incident that happened outside the home, authorities said. A .45 caliber handgun was recovered near the man.

The officers rendered first aid to the man, who was then taken to Jefferson Hospital in Washington Township, according to authorities. He was pronounced dead at 2:49 a.m.

No details were provided about what led to the shooting. At least 12 shell casings could be seen in the road, according to 6 ABC.

This investigation is being conducted pursuant to Attorney General Directive 2019-4, which implements the statutory requirement that the Attorney General’s Office conduct the investigation of any death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer’s official capacity or while the decedent is in custody, and which establishes clear standards and procedures for conducting such investigations. Authorities provided no further information Tuesday afternoon.
