West Deptford Police Nab Alleged Car Burglar, Search for Another

Police say 18-year-old Kwame Cooke, of Woodbury, is being sought for his role in a string of vehicle burglaries. Malik A. Headen, his 25-year-old brother, is in custody.

West Deptford police have arrested a 25-year-old Woodbury native and continue to search for his 18-year-old brother in connection with a string of vehicle burglaries on Myrtle Ave during the overnight hours of June 2.

Malik A. Headen, currently of Camden City, was arrested June 5 with the help of Woodbury police, who discovered that he also had several active warrants for his arrest at the time of his apprehension.

While in custody, police say Headen confessed to several vehicle burglaries in West Deptford and Woodbury and implicated himself and Cooke.

Headen was charged with burglary, theft and conspiracy to commit both, and is being held in the Gloucester County correctional facility in lieu of $15,000 bail, cash or bond.

His brother, 18-year-old Kwame Cooke, faces the same charges, and is still at large, police say.

Video surveillance provided by one of the victims of the vehicle thefts—in which a pair of prescription Ray Ban sunglasses, a Garmin GPS and loose change were taken—provided enough of a description for authorities to take to local pawn shops.

The sunglasses and GPS turned up at a second-hand store to which Headen had sold them on June 2, police said.
