Woodbury Woman Arrested Via Text Tip System

Gloucester Township police say an anonymous text tip led to charges against Crystal Jenkins for allegedly using a credit card from a lost purse.

Woodbury resident Crystal Jenkins has the dubious honor of being the first person arrested based on a new text tip program recently launched by Gloucester Townsip police.

Police credited the new Tips 411 program with providing information that led to Jenkins' arrest last week.

Jenkins, 40, of the unit block of Cooper Street, was arrested and charged with theft, fraud and related charges by Gloucester Township police for allegedly using a lost credit card for purchases.

Police say Jenkins was recorded on surveillance video at the Target store on Cross Keys Road on March 16 using a credit card from a lost handbag. The handbag was later found under a pile of clothes in the store.

Official say they received several anonymous tips after posting information on social media, including Facebook, Google+ and Twitter.

The Citizen Observers Tip 411 program enables a person to send a text message to 847411, keyword GLOTWP. The message will not identify the texter. Residents can also visit the tip411 webpage and send an anonymous email.

With both text messages and anonymous emails, the only identifier police receive is an unidentifiable tracking number. The person sending a text message receives a message back to call 911 if their situation is an emergency.
