Wrong-Way Crash Kills Woman, Hospitalizes Man In South Jersey: Police

Speed 'may have been a factor' in the deadly accident, authorities said.

MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ — A woman driving the wrong way was killed in a crash that also hospitalized the other driver on Thursday morning in Monroe Township, police said.

After the head-on crash, a 41-year-old woman from Vineland was extricated from her SUV and pronounced dead at the scene. Police withheld her name.

The other driver sustained a head injury, police said. He was driven to Cooper Trauma Center.

"Preliminary investigation suggests that speed may have been a factor in the collision," said the Monroe Township Police Department.

The crash happened at 6:37 a.m. Thursday on Piney Hollow Road, near the intersection with Jackson Road, officials said.

The Vineland woman entered the westbound lane on Piney Hollow Road while driving east, police said. Her 2013 Nissan Rogue struck the front of a pickup truck in the westbound lane, according to law enforcement.

Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt, police said.
