Memorial Day Parade Set in Westfield

The annual Westfield Memorial Day Parade will be taking place on Monday, May 25.

Opening ceremonies for the Memorial Day celebrations will begin at 9 a.m. at the World War I Monument Circle, located at the North Avenue and East Broad Street Plaza, according to The Westfield Leader. parade participants are urged to be at the Lord & Taylor West parking by 8 a.m.

The opening ceremonies will feature a number of speakers, including Allan Betau, commander of Westfield’s American Legion Martin Wallberg Post No. 3, Westfield Mayor Andrew Skibitsky, Peter Hogaboom and Bob D’Arecca, according to the report.

Following the opening ceremonies the parade, led by Grand Marshal Ralph Douglas and a contingent of veterans and members of the New Jersey National Guard, will commence.

The parade will step off from the World War I Monument heading north on East Broad Street to Fairview Cemetary, where the American Legion will hold a closing ceremony, the report said.

Temperatures this weekend are expected to start out cool, but warm up by Sunday and Monday. The weather for Memorial Day is expected to be mostly cloudy, with a high near 79 degrees.
