Multiple Car Burglaries, Bike Thefts In Westfield Last Week: Police
Car burglaries and bike thefts have become increasingly common in Westfield and neighboring Union County towns.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield saw a number of car burglaries and bike thefts last week, according to the most recent police blotter.
Car burglaries have become a common occurrence in Westfield in recent months, as well as surrounding towns in Union County. Two weeks ago, some residents had valuables stolen from their cars, which included catalytic converters.

The first burglary that occurred last week was on Monday, Sept. 19 when a resident on Kimball Ave. told police that an unknown person rummaged through their car. However, police said no items were taken.
Two more burglaries occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 20 when the thieves entered two cars belonging to a resident on the 400 block of Hillside Avenue, according to police.

The first car, described as a 2017 gray-colored Porsche Macan and the second car, described as a 2016 beige-colored Volvo XC7, were both entered into, police said. The Volvo was the only vehicle that had an item taken from it, which was described as "historical paperwork," according to police.
Police said no damage was reported to either one of the motor vehicles.
In addition, Westfield saw several bike thefts last week, which has become a common issue in neighboring towns like Summit, as well.

A resident reported that his son's bike was stolen out of Northside Train Station on Thursday, Sept. 22, according to police.
The resident told police his son parked his bicycle and secured it with a bike chain at about 5:45 p.m. and when he returned at about 9:30 p.m., the bike and the bike chain were gone.
Police said the bike was described as a navy blue-colored Diamondback Mountain Hybrid with thin mountain bike tires valued at approximately $350. The bike chain was valued at approximately $40.
Then on Saturday, Sept. 24, a resident on the 100 block of Livingston reported that an unknown person gained access to his shed and stole a bicycle and bike helmet, which totaled to $749.98, police said.
