Healthcare Pioneer, Westfield Native Honored With New Exhibit In 2026 (patch.com) — Westfield residents can celebrate hometown medical pioneer Dr. Virginia Apgar as the Westfield Historical Society unveils a new exhibit on her life and the lifesaving newborn APGAR score. Opening Jan. 25 at the society’s Mountain Avenue headquarters, the display will be open Sundays through the end of 2026, giving locals ample time to explore her legacy.

Girls Ice Hockey: Westfield Slips Past Madison, 3-2, Despite 48-Save Night from Dickson-Child (tapinto.net) — Westfield’s girls ice hockey team pulled out a 3–2 road win over Madison, with Frederique Daneault scoring the decisive third-period goal. After falling behind early, Westfield surged ahead in the second, then answered Madison’s late push while goalie Riley Brickman turned aside 22 shots to secure the victory and move the Blue Devils to 5–3.

Popular N.J. restaurant, wine bar closes abruptly after nearly 25 years (nj.com subscription) — A beloved downtown Westfield staple, 16 Prospect Wine Bar & Bistro, has permanently closed as of New Year’s Day after nearly 25 years in town. Owned by Westfield natives Christopher and Timothy Boyle since 2001, the Prospect Street spot was known for its intimate atmosphere, live music five nights a week, and fully in-house menu, from bread to bar snacks.
   

4. Officer Sicknick dies in Capitol attack: This week in Central Jersey history, Jan. 5-11 (mycentraljersey.com) — Westfield gets a brief nod in this Central Jersey history roundup, recalling a classic high school wrestling matchup where Westfield fell 22-17 to Piscataway back in 1976. The piece mainly revisits notable regional moments, from political decisions and sports milestones to local government changes and community events across Central Jersey.
   

5. Union County Welcomes New Commissioners Chair For 2026 (patch.com) — Union County has a new Board of County Commissioners chairman for 2026, a change that will shape county services and programs affecting Westfield residents.
