WATCH: Sneak Peek Of 'The Watcher,' Based On Infamous NJ Home
The first sneak peek of the limited series features Jennifer Coolidge giving an open house tour of the infamous "Watcher" home.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A "luxurious" home is on the market in Westfield. It features four bedrooms and a gorgeous outdoor pool — all within minutes of a top-ranked school district and lively downtown.
But this isn't any ordinary listing. It's Netflix's new teaser for the show "The Watcher" — a limited series based on the infamously creepy Westfield home on 657 Boulevard.
Produced by Ryan Murphy, creator of "Glee" and "American Horror Story," the new series is slated to be released as part of Netflix's Halloween 2022 lineup. The potential air date for the show is Oct. 13, according to What's On Netflix.

The series will follow married couple Nora and Dean Brannock, played by Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale, who have just purchased their dream home in the idyllic suburb of Westfield. But after putting all of their savings into closing the deal, they soon realized that the neighborhood is "less than welcoming."
The real-life saga of "The Watcher," which made international headlines, began in 2014 when Derek and Maria Broaddus purchased the 1905 Dutch colonial for $1.3 million, hoping to raise their three children there.

However, before they were even able to move in, an anonymous letter writer began sending threatening letters with disturbing references to their three children.
The family said they were too scared to move into the six-bedroom house due to the threats the letters contained, such as "allow me to watch you and track you as you move through the house" and referring to the children as "young blood."

Instead of a traditional trailer for the new series, Netflix released a three-minute "open house" hosted by realtor Karen Calhoun, played by Jennifer Coolidge of "The White Lotus" and "Legally Blonde."
Calhoun appears to advertise the home as any energetic realtor would, except for some questionable moments that may raise some eyebrows.
For instance, while showing off the mansion's dumbwaiter in the kitchen, Calhoun mentions that you could fit an entire person in the space. She also plays a sinister tune on the home's piano for a few seconds and refuses to open the bedroom curtains to keep all the "weird neighbors" from looking in.
According to the official logline of the show, “There’s a kooky older woman named Pearl (Mia Farrow) and her brother Jasper (Terry Kinney), who sneaks into the Brannocks’ house and hides in their dumbwaiter (a ha!). There’s Karen (Coolidge), the realtor and an old acquaintance of Nora’s, who makes them feel like they don’t really belong, and nosy neighbors Mitch (Richard Kind) and Mo (Margo Martindale), who don’t seem to understand property lines."
The series, which is also co-produced by Ian Brennan of "Ratched" and "The Politician," will release as one of three Netflix Original Ryan Murphy projects in the fall of 2022. The other two are Mr. Harrigan’s Phone and DAHMER.

To this day, no one knows the real-life letter writer who sent the horrifying messages to the family.
In Aug. of 2019, the home was finally sold for $959K to another couple, Andrew and Allison Carr. The Broaddus family tried to sell the home multiple times and was forced to drop the price.

The Broaddus couple also tried to sue the previous owners of the home in 2016, claiming they knew of "The Watcher's" threatening letters but did not disclose any information while selling the home. A Superior Court judge eventually dismissed the lawsuit in 2017.
