Union County Hosting Mobile Document Shredding Program

The Union County document shredding program provides residents a safe way to dispose of documents.

If residents are worried about identity theft or have too much clutter, the Union County mobile document shredding program will be available in Clark Township next week.

The mobile paper shredding program for confidential personal documents will be available to all Union County residents on Wednesday, June 3, at the Clark Township Department of Public Works facility, 135 Westfield Ave. The rain or shine event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Union County’s mobile document-shredding service helps residents fight identity theft and eliminate clutter in their homes,” Freeholder Chairman Mohamed S. Jalloh said in a release from the county. “It is a cost-effective way to assist our recycling efforts and it ties in with Union County’s other Go Green Initiatives.”

All Union County residents are eligible for participation in the shredding program. However, each resident is limited to four 10-pound bags or boxes. Documents should not be bound and plastic binders and paperclips should be removed.

Additionally, damp or wet paper will not be accepted. Residents can recycle non-confidential papers and magazines with their municipal recycling programs.

Documents submitted to be shredded at the mobile shredding program are placed into 96-gallon contained provided by the shredding company. The items are then dumped onto a conveyor belt and shredded. According to the County of Union, participants are allowed to view the shredding process on a closed-circuit television.

The next shredding event will take place on Sunday, June 28, at the Union County Vo-Tech campus in Scotch Plains.
