Westfield Town-Wide Street Sign Auction Gears Up As Replacement Program Nears Completion
An auction for residents to be able to purchase the old signs is expected in late July, early August.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A town-wide street sign replacement program is close to completion in Westfield.
Business Administrator Jim Gildea gave an update on the program at the June 24 Town Council meeting.
All of the town-owned 1,350 street signs are expected to be replaced throughout Westfield by the end of July with new Westfield's navy blue and white reflective signs.

Additionally, Gildea said the Town came to an agreement with Union County to take over the responsibility and maintenance of county-owned road signs in Westfield.
Gildea said this allows Westfield to do two things.

When "signs do get knocked down or damaged, we can immediately go out and replace them and do that on our own rather than having to wait for the county to get to it. Number 2, we want all signs on town roads to be branded the same way," Gildea.
County road signs are expected to be replaced by the end of summer or early September.
"By summer’s end, not only will the town’s roads be done in July, all the county roads will be finished by summer’s end or early September, which is great news. Really nice branding and visual across the entire town," said Gildea.
Additionally, after the replacement of the municipal road signs is completed, Gildea is expected to launch an auction of the old vintage signs.
The signs are in the process of being cataloged, measured, photographed, priced, etc. Some signs will also be saved for historical purposes.
"It's a tedious process, but I can’t tell you how many requests I have gotten from people I know in town asking when the auction starts," said Gildea. "There’s a lot of excitement about this, and once we launch it, we think it will be even more exciting."
Proceeds from the auction will either go to an organization of the Town's choosing or be used to offset the program, said Gildea previously.
