West Orange: Adult Classes at the South Mountain YMCA

Multiple classes are being offered with pay-as-you-go or drop-in fee set ups!

Now that the kids are back into their regular school routine, it’s time to get yourself back into a regular fitness routine. The South Mountain YMCA is pleased to announce a few new adult fitness programs at the Y.

New - MAT PILATES:

  • Ages 16+
  • An open-level class in the strengthening core exercises of Joseph Pilates. These exercises are executed on the floor on a small mat in a sequence perfect for developing your core muscles through focused, centered, controlled, conditioning through your every breath. Learn the correct positioning for safety and effective movement. “The Movement will Make the Change.” Class size is limited.
  • Mondays 6:00pm - 7:00pm
  • Location: YMCA Multi-Purpose Room
  • Fee: $10 Drop in fee per class. First time participants, please arrive at least 5 minutes early to register.

New - PILATES INSTRUCTION in the Joseph Pilates Classic Method:

  • (Ages 18+)
  • One-on-one individual programmed hour sessions in Mat and on the apparatus, reformer, tower, and ladder barrel. Every client begins in a different place depending on his or her life experience and physical capabilities. Through the centuries old Method, learn to strengthen and lengthen your muscles, improve posture, and insure your body to function at its best. Experience a healthier lifestyle and make positive changes in body and mind. Find a partner and enjoy a duet session for the same price.

  • Fee: $50 fee per class.

NEW - SUNRISE YOGA:

  • (Ages 18+)
  • Starting Tuesday, October 7th
  • Come join us early Tuesday mornings for Sunrise Yoga at the Y. It will be great for waking up the energy of your body to get your day started with a bright feeling. This is an all level class which focuses on the breath and on alignment in slow flowing vinyasa sequences. You will start with a warm up then move through sun salutations leading to an exploration of the asanas. The class is taught by certified yoga instructor Varrita Siryon. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat or borrow one from the Y.
  • Tuesday: 6:15 - 7:15am
  • Location: YMCA Program Center
  • Fee: $5 Drop in fee per class. First time participants, please arrive at least 5 minutes early to register.

ZUMBA®

  • Ages 18+
  • Come participate in this fun and exciting class. Certified Zumba instructors Carole Smith and Dionne Colon’s high energy and enthusiasm are contagious and will help you get in great shape, relieve stress and burn calories - while having a blast. The Zumba® program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away. The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. All levels welcome, you don’t have to be a good dancer to do this class, must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Monday 7:30 - 8:30pm; Thursday 7:30 - 8:30pm
  • Location: YMCA Program Center
  • Fee: $5 Drop in fee per class. First time participants, please arrive at least 5 minutes early to register.

PRAISEMOVES

  • Ages 18+
  • Starting up again October 2, 2014
  • PraiseMoves has been called the “Christian alternative to yoga”. PraiseMoves is performed through full ranges of movement that include gentle, deep diaphragmatic breathing that strives to balance flexibility, strength, endurance and relaxation. By improving your flexibility and strengthening your muscles with PraiseMoves, you will not only enhance your ability to perform daily tasks, you will also improve your posture, help alleviate common aches and pains, reduce back pain, and increase your overall sense of health and well-being. Please bring your own roll-up exercise mat and water bottle.
  • Thursday 7:30-8:30pm
  • NEW Location: Y’s Multi-Purpose Room
  • Fee:$5 Drop in fee per class. First time participants, please arrive at least 5 minutes early to register.

TOTAL BODY KICK

  • Ages 18+ Starting up again October 1, 2014
  • Feel great with this all-over, stress-busting workout! This one hour class begins with a fun, heart-pumping, cardio kickboxing segment, followed by toning, sculpting and strengthening on the mat. Appropriate for all fitness and skill levels.
  • Wednesday 7:30 - 8:30pm
  • Location: YMCA Program Center
  • Fee: $5 Drop in fee per class. First time participants, please arrive at least 5 minutes early to register.
