Annual Golf Tournament Supporting Special Needs Students Returns to West Orange

The annual "Lefty" Boland Golf Tournament benefiting special needs students will take place later this month.

The annual “Lefty” Boland Golf Tournament benefiting special needs students will take place in West Orange later this month.

The golf outing will take place on Tuesday, June 23, at Rock Spring Club, 90 Rock Spring Road.

Lefty Boland was the former recreation director for West Orange Township for nearly four decades, according to officials from West Orange Public Schools. In 2011, the funds raised by the golf outing to provide funds to special needs classes and programs across West Orange Public Schools. The funds provided for technology items, including iPads, computers and SMART Boards.

The 2015 grants will be awarded at dinner held after the golf outing, school district officials said. Opportunities are still available for players and corporate sponsorships.

The “Lefty” Boland Golf Tournament is sponsored by an all-volunteer comittee composed of West Orange employees, Board of Education members and township residents. According to school district officials, members include Bill Kehoe (chair), Nick Allegrino, Bill Boland (son of Lefty), John Buoye, Mike Shannon, Kevin Dillon, Frank “Bo” Ench, Randi Fried, Rob Parisi, Edwin Johnson, Marty Kale, Joe Pelose, Jim Quinn, Bob Sharkey, Danny Tobia and Robert C. Williams.
