Essex County Leaf Collection Schedule For 2025: See When, Where Pickups Will Happen
Live on a county road? Need to dispose of leaves this fall? Here's what to know this year in Essex County.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Essex County has released its leaf collection schedule for 2025, with the first round of pickups on county-maintained roads scheduled to launch Monday, Oct. 27.
To organize leaf collection on county roads, Essex County is divided into four sectors. A full list of county roads by municipality can be seen online here.
Here's when and where pickups will take place this year:

- Section 1: (Cedar Grove, Millburn and West Orange) - Monday, October 27 to Friday, October 31; Monday, November 24 to Friday, November 28; and Monday, December 22 to Friday, December 26.
- Section 2: (South Orange and Maplewood) - Monday, November 3 to Friday, November 7; Monday, December 1 to Friday, December 5; and Monday, December 29 to Friday, January 2, 2026.
- Section 3: (Belleville and East Orange) - Monday, November 10 to Friday, November 14; Monday, December 8 to Friday, December 12; and Monday, January 5, 2026, to Friday, January 9, 2026 (The last pick up will be made only if it is needed).
- Section 4: (Irvington, Newark and Orange) - Monday, November 17 to Friday, November 21 and Monday, December 15 to Friday, December 19.
Don’t live in any of the above towns or cities? Here’s your next step, according to the county:
"Essex County has entered into shared services agreements with Bloomfield, Caldwell, Essex Fells, Fairfield, Glen Ridge, Livingston, Montclair, North Caldwell, Nutley, Roseland, Verona and West Caldwell. In these municipalities, the local Department of Public Works will collect leaves on County roads. If your property is located on a County road in one of these towns, please consult your municipal Public Works Department for more information or to obtain a schedule."

- LEAVES – Leaves should be swept to the curb or placed in biodegradable bags at the curb no more than seven days before the scheduled pickup time.
- STORM DRAINS – Residents are asked to pile leaves at least 10 feet from a storm drain.
