West Orange's David Cassidy Dies; ‘Partridge Family’ Star Was 67

Cassidy, best-known for his role as "Keith" on Partridge Family, grew up in Essex County, New Jersey.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — A generation of teens who gave their hearts to American icon David Cassidy during his heyday in the 1970s – as well as those who grew up alongside “The Partridge Family” – got a dose of heartbreak on Tuesday when Cassidy passed away. He was 67-years-old.

Cassidy, best-known for his role as “Keith” on Partridge Family, grew up in West Orange.

"It is with great sadness that I post this message," a statement on Cassidy’s website read. "David Cassidy has meant so much to so many people. David was an iconic teen idol in the '70s and he maintained a career spanning movies, theater, music, writing, directing. His multi-generational connection to so many people from all walks of life, from all around the world will be felt today. Despite being a star, he was kind hearted, thoughtful and considerate of others. He will be greatly missed.”

A post on Sunday that was signed by the icon’s son, Beau Cassidy, read:

“Unfortunately, David is very sick. However, he is getting the support he needs, surrounded by the people he loves most. Thank you very much for your love and concern that you have expressed in your messages to him.”

In February, Cassidy announced that he was suffering from dementia. He had been hospitalized in Florida in critical condition with organ failure prior to his passing, according to multiple reports.
