Family Displaced After Two-Alarm House Fire Near Hazel Elementary

The Tuesday evening blaze started in the basement of the Mitchell Street home and spread to first floor, West Orange officials said.

A West Orange family was displaced Tuesday evening after a basement fire spread to the first floor in a residence near Hazel Elementary School, West Orange officials said. 

The two-alarm fire broke out around 6:15 p.m. at 129 Mitchell Street and was extinguished within 30 minutes, according to township spokeswoman, Jessica Glicker.

Four West Orange fire engines and one ladder truck responded to the fire as well as the West Orange First Aid Squad. Montclair and Orange fire departments provided mutual aid.

No injuries were reported. Authorities are unsure of the cause of fire, which is under investigation.
