WEST ORANGE, NJ — A former bowling alley in West Orange is set to begin its new life as a gym next week.

Iron Culture will hold a soft opening for its $10 million, 26,000-square-foot new location in West Orange on Monday, Sept. 22. It is located at the former site of Eagle Rock Lanes, a local bowling alley that served the community for decades before closing a few years ago.

Spokespeople said the new gym will bring “fresh energy” to the local landmark while honoring its past via a retrofit “fusion” (see construction photos in gallery above). It will offer expert trainers, group classes and fitness assessments.

The gym’s interior design was led by U.K. architectural firm zynk Design and is “thoughtfully reimagined” from the original bowling alley, with re-leveled flooring, nearly 16-foot ceilings, a dedicated cardio deck and a “posing room” with 360-degrees of mirrors and customizable lighting.

The company – founded by former NY Waterway executive Arthur Imperatore – currently has locations in Cedar Knolls and North Bergen.
