Four Teens Charged in West Orange Armed Robbery
Tips from public after releasing surveillance photos led to arrests, police say.

West Orange police arrested four teens Wednesday in connection with the assault and armed robbery of a New York man in early May, Mayor Robert D. Parisi announced.
“I’d like to thank those members of the public who sent us tips that helped detectives follow leads to solve this case,” West Orange Police Chief James P. Abbott said.
The men allegedly beat and robbed a New York man at gunpoint at the corner of Ridge and Watson avenues, near the border of Montclair and Orange, just after 10 p.m. on May 4.

The armed man pistol-whipped the New York man while the other four men beat and robbed him, police said. The robbers took $300 in cash, his wallet and cell phone, valued at $200, according to the police report.
According to the township, Tyshun Brunson, 19, of Orange, was charged armed robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery along with three other juveniles.

On June 4, the Essex County Sheriff's Office that led to the arrest the men involved, a few days after the West Orange police released images of the men they believe were involved.
"This incident emphasizes the increasing importance of video footage and in working cooperatively with the public to effectively and efficiently identify, prevent and solve problems of crime,” Abbott said.
Brunson was sent to Essex County Jail pending his arraignment. The juveniles were brought to Essex County Youth House pending a court date.
Originally, it was reported five were involved in the robbery. However according to township spokesperson Jessica Glicker, the fifth person was seen walking away before the robbery.
