Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of the Oranges Name Livingston Teen as 2015 Young Irishman of Year

Brendan Tevlin was posthumously selected for the honor of Young Irishman of the Year.

The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of the Oranges announced it has chosen to honor a Livingston teen who was killed in West Orange in June 2014.

Brendan Tevlin will be posthumously honored with the award at the 114th Anniversary Dinner on Thursday, March 12, at Mayfair Farms, 481 Eagle Rock Ave. in West Orange. Michael Critchley, Sr., will serve as the guest speaker at the event.

Tevlin, 19, of Livingston, was killed on June 25 and the suspect, Ali Muhammad Brown, 29, of Seattle, was arrested and accused of Tevlin’s murder, Patch reported in September. Tevlin had just completed his freshman year of college at the University of Richmond, in Richmond, Virginia, where he was a member of the lacrosse club.

Brown is also being charged with an attempted carjacking in Point Pleasant Beach on June 29 and was arrested in Seattle in July 2014 in connection with three shootings in Washington state, Patch said. The man said he killed Tevlin and three other men as an act of retribution for lives lost in the military conflicts in the Middle East, according to NJ.com.

The Anniversary Dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour, followed by dinner and the event program at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to the gentlemen only event are $100 each.
