THE ORANGES, NJ — A new cigar lounge in Essex County recently got a hearty congratulations from local officials, who say it is helping to “revitalize” the neighborhood.

Brivado Cigars held a grand opening bash at 14 North Center Street in Orange last month, drawing hundreds of local residents and dignitaries for its ribbon cutting party.

At 5,000 square feet, the lounge is nearly four times the size of many of its New Jersey peers. The member-based facility features more than 350 cigar selections, a “state-of-the-art” ventilation system, and a 2,000-square-foot, smoke-free private event space designed to fit up to 100 guests.

The “proud Black-owned business” is more than just a cigar shop, according to founder Brian Agnew – it’s a labor of love.

“Brivado represents more than a lounge,” Agnew said. “It’s a place where people can connect, relax and celebrate.”

The grand opening event was attended by several local elected officials from Orange and East Orange.

Meanwhile, New Jersey Assemblywoman Carmen Morales delivered a proclamation from the state Legislature – signed by Sen. Britnee Timberlake, Assemblyman Michael Venezia and herself – which commends Brivado Cigars for hiring local residents, supporting small businesses and “investing in the city’s future.”

Orange Mayor Dwayne Warren said that seeing the cigar lounge come to life was a “testament to what happens when vision meets community investment.”

“Small businesses like this one are helping fuel the transformation of the City of Orange Township, and we couldn’t be more excited to support it,” Warren said.

With 15 televisions positioned throughout the lounge, Brivado is also gearing up to welcome sports fans.

“Between the NFL season and the upcoming FIFA World Cup, we look forward to being the place where the community can come together to watch, cheer, and enjoy the games,” Agnew said.
