ICYMI: Mary Kline Classic Charity Event Raises $43K for Cancer Research

The fifth annual charity all-star basketball event in West Orange raised more than $40,000 for cancer research.

A charity basketball event featuring some of the top high school basketball talent in the nation returned to West Orange and raised more than $40,000 for cancer research, according to reports.

The fifth annual Mary Kline Classic, a charity all-star basketball event, took place in the West Orange High School gymnasium on Saturday, May 30. The all-star event raised $43,000 for cancer research, according to a report from TAPinto.net.

The Mary Kline Classic was established by Alex Kline, founder of high school basketball recruiting website “The Recruit Scoop”, in memory of his late mother who lost a battle to cancer when he was 10 years old, the report from TAPinto.net said.

According to the Mary Kline Classic, the star-studded event has previously featured current National Basketball Association (NBA) player Tyler Ennis and NBA hopefuls Karl Anthony-Towns, who many believe will be the No. 1 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft; Rondae Hollis-Jefferson; Chris McCullogh; Isaiah Whitehead and numerous others.

The event featured an underclassmen game, three-point shot contest, slam dunk contest and a senior game, featuring some of the top high school senior basketball players.

Prior to the 2015 Mary Kline Classic, the event raised more than $104,000 for cancer research and the $43,000 raised in 2015 eclipsed the 2014 total by $12,000, according to the Mary Kline Classic.
