Joyful Families Prepare For Holiday Season Adoptions In Essex County

Nearly 100 kids across New Jersey will be adopted this weekend – just in time for Thanksgiving.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Every child deserves to grow up with a loving family. And this weekend, nearly 100 kids across New Jersey are expected to get one.

At least 16 counties in the state are preparing to put a final stamp of approval on 93 adoption cases ahead of National Adoption Day this weekend. Many will cross the finish line on Friday.

Local court vicinages each have their own plans to honor National Adoption Day.

In Essex County, a dozen families will be finalizing 13 adoptions. Afterwards, they’ll each be treated to deliveries of breakfast pastries, a livestreamed magic show, and donated gift baskets with items such as books, toys and gift certificates.

According to the New Jersey Department of Children and Families (DCF), more than 300 adoptions are likely to happen in the state this year, with 267 adoptions having already taken place as of Sept. 30.

“All children deserve to grow up with a loving family,” DCF Commissioner Christine Norbut Beyer said.

“Whether the family is created through birth or adoption, the lifelong bond of love and connection is what matters,” Beyer said. “And while adoptions through foster care can be bittersweet, Adoption Day events are a celebration of the forming of new families – and the permanent connections that will support children and youth into adulthood.”

Glenn Grant, director of the New Jersey Administrative Office of the Court, said it’s always inspiring to see people “open their hearts and homes” for a child in need.

“Their courage and sacrifice, and their love, help build a better society for all of us,” Grant said.
