Man Charged In Morris County Memorial Day Shooting

The 39-year-old man shot at the victim, fled the scene, and surrendered the next day, according to the Prosecutor's Office.

ROXBURY, NJ — A man from West Orange was arrested and charged with shooting someone on Memorial Day, according to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.

The man, 39-year-old Michael Mecca, was arguing with the victim, left and came back with a gun, according to officials.

During the second altercation Mecca allegedly pulled out a .40 caliber handgun from his waistband and shot the victim, officials said.

The victim was taken to the hospital with a leg wound and is expected to survive. Mecca fled the scene and turned himself into authorities Tuesday. The weapon used was also recovered from the area of the incident.

Mecca was charged with second degree aggravated assault, second degree unlawful
possession of a weapon, and second degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose in
connection with this incident.
