More Than 35 Locals Run NJ Marathon

The 2013 New Jersey Marathon at the shore took place this past weekend in Long Branch with 38 West Orange residents participating.

More than 11,000 runners participated in this year's New Jersey Marathon in Long Branch this past weekend, where eight West Orange residents ran the marathon and 30 finished the half.

Oz Pearlman, 30, of New York, won the marathon on May 5 with a time of 2:28:23. Finishing behind Pearlman was Eddie Valentine, 33, of Arlington, VA, with a time of 2:36:35. In the woman category, Elizabeth Drews, 43, of Warren, finished with a time of 3:00:11.

The top finishing local in the marathon, Craig Chapman, 37, finished in the top-15 percent in 350th place with a time of 3:32:09.

Even more impressive, 37-year-old Jonathan Wurtele finished the half-marathon in 115th place out of 5,350 participants with a time of 1:34:03.
