Relay for Life Returns to West Orange

West orange High School will be hosting Relay for Life later this month.

Relay for Life is returning to the township later this month when West Orange High School plays host to the event.

The Relay for Life will take place on may 15-16 and 37 teams and more than 250 participants from the community are scheduled to walk the track at West Orange High School’s Suriano Stadium, 51 Conforti Ave., in honor of cancer awareness.

According to officials from the West Orange School District, approximately $17,000 was raised by May 5. The event is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and conclude at 5 a.m. In the event of rain, the event will be moved indoors.

Several West Orange High School students will be taking part in the Relay for Life and leading teams, including Rebekah Pedo, the Jr. Air Force ROTC, Deborah Alabi, and Vanessa Oyeneye.

“Participating has been awesome experience. It’s a great experience and a great cause to support” WOHS senior Jake Klein said.

Additionally, teams from Gregory and Pleasantdale will be taking part in the Relay, and activities, including a cancer survivor and remembrance ceremony, are planned during the event.
