Seattle Mariners Select Seton Hall Prep Alumnus in MLB Draft
A Seton Hall Prep alumnus was selected in the 21st round of the 2015 MLB Draft.
The Seattle Mariners have selected an alumnus of West Orange’s Seton Hall Preparatory School in the 21st round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft.
Northeastern University’s Rob Fonseca, of Madison, was selected by the Mariners in the 21st round, with the 635th overall pick in the draft, according to MLB.com. Fonseca is listed at 6-feet-2-inches and 210 pounds.
Fonseca missed the 2014 Northeastern baseball season due to injury, according to the university’s athletics website. In 2013, however, he earned second team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors and started all 57 games for the Huskies at first base.

Through his first two years at Northeastern, the New Jersey native hit .300, 119 hits, 14 home runs, 77 runs batted in, 25 doubles and a .479 slugging percentage, according to the university’s athletics department.
While attending high school at Seton Hall Prep, he played two years of varsity baseball as a first baseman and outfielder, and he was named All-County and All-Conference twice, the university said. Additionally, he was selected third team All-State and the 2011 county player of the year.
