Section 8 Housing In West Orange: Town Will Accept Applications

The West Orange Public Housing Agency will accept the first 300 applications submitted, starting on May 3.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Need affordable housing in West Orange? The town will soon be taking applications for its Section 8 housing waitlist – but only the first 300 applicants will be accepted.

Town officials announced that the West Orange Public Housing Agency (WOPHA) will accept applications for the Housing Choice Voucher program – also known as Section 8 – starting at 8:30 a.m. on May 3.

Only one application per household will be accepted (see income limits below). Applications will only be accepted online and not in person. Learn more here.

According to an advisory from the township:

“The Housing Choice Voucher program is federally funded and provides housing subsidies to residents to obtain decent, safe, and sanitary housing. Persons applying to the waiting list must be 18 years of age or older or be an emancipated minor and meet all applicable federal income and eligibility requirements to apply. The first 300 completed households will be selected based on the date, time and preference points. Applicants eligible for a preference will receive priority placement on the waiting list.”
