Take ‘Full Advantage’ Of New Child Tax Credit, Payne Urges NJ-10

"As a father of three, I know how every extra dollar can make a difference in household budgets," U.S. Rep. Donald Payne Jr. said.

NEW JERSEY — As a father of three, U.S. Rep. Donald Payne Jr. says that he knows firsthand how every extra dollar can make a difference in household budgets. And that’s why he’s urging families in New Jersey’s 10th District – and others around the state – to make sure they’re signed up for a new federal child tax credit that could seriously impact their wallets … in a good way.

Here’s how it works, according to a news release from the congressman:

“On July 15, the expanded Child Tax Credit will provide eligible American families with payments of $250 to $300 per child every month until the end of 2021 … The expanded Child Tax Credit was part of the American Rescue Plan. It is available to all New Jersey families with children under 17-years-old that earn $150,000 or less for a two-parent household, and $75,000 or less for a single-parent household. Families with children under 6-years-old will receive $300 payments and families with children between 6 and 17-years-old will receive $250 payments … Qualified parents must file a tax return with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or sign up through the IRS Non-Filer Tool to become eligible for the payments. For more information, visit www.ChildTaxCredit.gov.”

Payne said the new tax credit will benefit 84 percent of children in New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District and bring at least 12,000 local children out of poverty.
